Building Futures is a construction pre-apprenticeship job training and placement program in operation since 2006. The program includes occupational training with certifications, soft skills and job readiness training, case management, job placement and retention services. Clients are placed into construction or related jobs, or registered apprenticeship programs, which are "earn while you learn" programs leading to nationally-recognized credentials and licenses.
Eligibility: The program is open to low-income DC residents 21 years of age and over, men and women, including ex-offenders. Applicants MUST be interested in a career in the building and construction industry, be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, have a valid drivers’ license or learners’ permit, be healthy enough to do physical labor and BE DRUG FREE INCLUDING MARIJUANA.
Curriculum:The program is a six-week pre-apprenticeship training that combines hands on construction skills training, with construction math, blue print reading, resume-writing and interviewing skills, on the job relationship building and time management, orientation to the construction industry and apprenticeship, and more!
