United Way and DC One Fund Campaigns: #8253
For more than 80 years, the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and United Way have enjoyed a cooperative relationship through which state and local United Ways provide services to members of organized labor, their families and their communities, and organized labor provides donations, volunteers and advocacy for the social services safety net. The March 2016 Partnership Agreement Between United Way Worldwide and the AFL-CIO, "An Enduring Partnership to Advance the Common Good," declares as its principles the need for collective action to eliminate the root causes of social problems, shared values of community participation, a recognition that working people have the right to fair play and working conditions and the right to organize, and that diversity builds the strength and effectiveness of both organizations.
As the metro Washington DC-area member of the AFL-CIO National Community Services Network, CSA subscribes to these principles and works with United Way of the National Capital Area to implement the National Partnership Agreement.
